Acquired Brain Injury Success

Things That Have Worked For Me

Be okay with failure, just try again until you get it - Partial  Success Is Still Success

Have Fun, it is one of the best ways to learn  - SMILE and ENJOY

Commit to what you start  -  If you sign up for a class or whatever it is, put 100% effort into it.  -  If you half-ass it, you only get back what you put in.

Try new things, and get out of the house

Listen to music, it may make your toes wiggle.  Try to sing  or dance

Show up early and be prepared

You don't have to do it, You get to do it

My Approach

I am not an expert, I am just another survivor trying to help my fellow survivors  grow and thrive.  I wish there was a place I could find all the support and assistance available in San Diego,   I have worked extremely hard to accomplish what I have earned academically.  I have used accommodations for the last 25 years with success and failure.  I decided to create a link to all the services that I have used and are available to us in our community.

I have plans to earn my MA Special Education with a emphasis on Traumatic Brain Injury

I have worked hard to overcome many obstacles in my life.  I began my recovery at Sharp Day Treatment Outpatient in San Diego.  I stayed there for around 6 months with Speech Language Pathology from Kaiser for an additional 2 years or so.  I then went to the ABI Program at Mesa College for 2 years or so.  During all of this rehab, I was going to college and to SDSU for Communicative Disorders degree so I could become a Speech Language Pathologist.  I was not successful.  I failed out of school, my priorities had a different path at the time.

Speech Language Pathology Assistant

American Sign Language

After getting sober in 2006, I have been on a driven path for success.  I have used strategies from the ABI Program, Speech Pathologists, and my Sharp Rehab to focus on what I want.  I want to help fellow survivors.  I have earned my SLPA (Speech Language Pathology Assistant) Degree from Grossmont College and a ASL (American Sign Language) Degree from Cuyamaca College.  I then went to PLNU (Point Loma Nazarene University and earn my BA in Child & Adolescent Development.   I have plans to earn my MA Special Education with a emphasis on Traumatic Brain Injury
